Maverick was desperate.
He really needed a compact, easily transported and sturdy stool that was high enough for him to work comfortably at his work bench when demonstrating his craft and custom fitting his belts to customers at the markets, festivals, and special events.
It had to be compact and easily transported because there is just so much room in his car in which to fit his products, tools, supplies, tent and other essentials for an event. The stool he had simply took up too much space. And for some strange reason, Mrs. Maverick insisted on sitting in rather than on the car.
It had to be sturdy because … Well, let’s just say it had to be sturdy.
After searching in vain for a commercial stool that met all of his requirements, Maverick gave up and decided to make his own.
This proved easier said than done.
Hours of internet research failed to turn up any designs that would work. Then he remembered the Tandy Leather tripod camp stool kits that were popular in the ‘70s. One of those would be perfect! Except …
Except it was way too short. It was so short that he would not even be able to see what he was trying to work on; let alone actually work on it.
So, it was back to searching the net for a tutorial on how to make one. Unfortunately, all of the tutorials he found required complicated hardware that he did not have.
Being somewhat determined by nature, he kept searching until he finally found one that could be made from 3 hardwood legs, 2 meters of strong, nylon cord, and the leather needed to make the triangular seat.
So, in late March of 2012, mere days before the next event he was working, a slightly anxious Maverick ventured forth to purchase said hardwood legs and nylon cord.
Voila! Maverick’s Tripod Bar Stool was born!
Born out of desperation and inspired by Tandy Leather’s camp stool kits, it is exactly what he needed:
compact, easy to transport, and sturdy enough to support all but the largest of folks!
… Even a now very happy Maverick.
