An Amazon affiliate store will allow us to earn commissions from items we highlight in our store, and any products the visitor purchases before their Amazon session cookie expires; which is typically 2 or 3 days.
Our store would focus on leathercraft items, and books and other resources that would help at risk persons.
The commissions aren’t great. But they are worth the effort.
Another aspect of Amazon’s affiliate program is that affiliates earn commissions on items they mention and link to in blog posts. As with the store, the commissions aren’t great. But they are worth the profit.
A major benefit of having a store and/or an affiliate account that earns money from links in blog posts is they produce a level of trust on the part of those who visit becomingBETTER’s web sites. Thereby, producing the intangible but important benefit of making us “experts” in the areas we’Re active in.
It should be noted that Amazon has some strict criteria that have to be met in order to become an affiliate.
One of, and in terms of our timeline, is that the website _*must*_ exist. They want to see that the applicant has the ability and resources to run an affiliate store.
Since all 5 of our web hubs will have Amazon stores, the necessity of meeting this criteria is one of the reasons Markus and I are making absolutely certain all of our web hubs are up and running before moving forward.
If they aren’t Amazon will deny our application to become affiliates.
Therefore, we plan to populate our store with relevant content before we submit our application. While we won’t earn any money from sales that might result, we will demonstrate our ability to run one of their affiliate stores.
